Subject Matter Expert
  Yesterday’s Online Learning

The internet has presented Subject Matter Experts (SME) many new ways of packaging and delivering content for learning.

In the past, SME’s have worked directly with technologists, experts in using current technologies, to package traditional learning content for online use in a variety of ways including text, audio, video, and other forms of multimedia...

Unfortunately, repackaging content in and of itself does facilitate effective education.
Online Learning with BLS

The goal of education is to facilitate a change in behavior. In
order to accomplish this, Broadband Learning Systems integrates the elements of instructional design and technology
to create Learning Objects. Learning Objects start with clear objectives, are then populated with engaging content, and conclude with measurable assessment.

In order to keep education as the primary focus of the entire process, Subject Matter Experts work directly with the Instructional Designers to envision the Learning Objects. The Instructional Designers then partner with the technologists to realize the Learning Objects using various forms of interactive multimedia. These Learning Objects then become self contained modules, called Reusable Learning Objects (RLO) that can be used and reused in many different courses and units.
  Reusable Learning Object (RLO)

The BLS team has embraced Reusable Learning Objects, a new concept of the learning process that provides for
smaller, self-contained, re-usable units of learning, rather than the traditional "hours" of chunk content. Learning
objects can be grouped into larger collections of content, including traditional course structures. Each learning object
can be taken independently and will include the following:

  • Course Objectives and goals
  • Content and Activities, such as text, web pages, images, sound, video or games.
  • Assessments, such as quizzes, questions and answers.
  • Results in measurable behavioral change.
